About Your New Headshots
You just got a set of new headshots! Congrats!
Here are details about your new images, including how we edit, resolution and labels, and archiving.
Our Editing Process
Your photos are edited naturally.
Our goal is to capture a beautiful photo of you as you are, not how you wish you were.
Here are the 3 main items that are addressed, if needed, in post-production:
Image Exposure
There are several reasons why your original image may appear too dark or too light.
Sometimes we shoot using natural light and the sun may suddenly hide behind a cloud. Sometimes an environment is very dark if we are shooting on location. Sometimes (in the case of a multi-person session), someone’s skin tone may appear darker or lighter using the same lighting setup.
All of these exposure issues are addressed in editing so that every final image is the perfect exposure.
Background
In nearly every headshot, the background needs to be adjusted.
Often there are photography elements that made it onto the photo, since the lighting may have been placed very close to the subject. Those are removed.
Sometimes a background has tape, small spots on it, or uneven exposure that need to be addressed.
And once in a while, a color tone adjustment will be made to help your headshot shine.
Your headshot’s background will be cleaned up and perfected for your business headshot.
Skin Retouching
We keep the skin editing natural!
We take care of:
temporary blemishes
dark under-eye circles
and do a very mild softening on skin texture and deep wrinkles. We do NOT remove wrinkles :) You earned every one of those with years of laughter and we love the wisdom and beauty that comes with your natural appearance!
We also whiten teeth a touch if they appear too yellow on camera.
Here are a few things that are NOT edited in your business headshots:
Outfits that misbehave
Stray hairs that are too many around the head, or that are across the neck or chest, or splayed over the shoulders are too difficult to retouch naturally.
When it comes to stray hairs, we typically address a few at the top of the head if needed, or any single strands that are across the face or out in left field.
Body shape and size
Roots from un-dyed hair
Skin discoloration or red patches.
Your skin color is not altered in any way. How you come to your headshot session is how we assume you want to appear in your headshots.
Wrinkles in your shirt
Here is an example of a typical edit for a corporate headshot, plus an Extensive Edit Add-On.
We softened her skin a touch, addressed the flyaways (possible because of the simple background), brightened the image, minimized the dark circles, and she also purchased an Extensive Edit Add-On so we could take care of the button that was pulling open at the bust in her outfit.
If you feel you would like a more extensive edit for your photos, we may still be able to help! More extensive edit requests range in price from $25 - $100 depending on what is being requested. Get in touch with your specific requests and we will let you know if what you are hoping for is possible.
Resolution & Labels
Your photos have been provided to you in 2-3 versions
No matter how you will be using your headshots, you have received a version to suit your needs. Whether you need to use your headshots in print material (up to 30’×40’), on your website, or for social media like LinkedIn, a version of each image has been provided with the appropriate sizing, resolution, and crop.
Full Resolution
This is the version of your headshot that is print-ready.
This image will be labeled with the word “PRINT” or “_copy.”
If you would like to print your headshot, but with a different crop/cut, normally printing companies allow you to adjust the image on their platform so that the crop of your headshot meets your needs.
If you are printing your headshot as an 8×10, some of the top or bottom of your image will be cut off. It’s important to note that a camera’s ratio may differ from the ratio of your printed materials.
Talk with your graphic designer about what size to print your headshots at.
2 Web Resolutions
These are the versions of your headshot that are for online use only.
You will receive a version that is the whole photo, sized for web use, and, you may receive a version that is cropped into a close-up standard headshot cut if appropriate.
These images will be labeled with the word “WEB” or “CROP-WEB.”
Do NOT print this version, as it will appear pixelated in your final print.
Use this version of your headshot for your website, social media, and other digital platforms.
Archiving
I archive only the images that you chose for 6 months.
(It’s just too much for me to store images that aren’t needed :)
Remember to Back Up Your Photos

And please make sure that anyone who may need access to your photos has
I do not save any images that were not chosen initially.
Please make sure to order any images you may want up front. I will hold on to the entire set of images and keep your gallery live for 7 days after your edits are sent, and then do not keep the un-chosen photos
